Government agencies, official data sets, and independent health-policy research. These carry the most weight and anchor our headline figures wherever they exist.

Tier 2

Primary pricing

Prices published by the party that actually sets them: manufacturers, pharmacies, labs, surgery centers, and the clinical associations and nonprofits that run the programs we describe.

Tier 3

Supporting context

Health and consumer-finance publishers, used for corroboration and context. Never the sole basis for a price we publish.

How we use them

Every headline price needs two independent sources or one Tier 1 / Tier 2 primary. Writers must open every page they cite, state the data vintage in the text, and publish the cross-source range whenever sources disagree. Links are re-checked on a recurring schedule and dead sources are replaced. The full standard lives in our editorial policy.
