Qulipta (atogepant) is AbbVie’s once-daily oral CGRP blocker for preventing migraine, approved for both episodic and chronic migraine in adults. Because it is taken every day rather than only during an attack, its cash cost is a fixed monthly bill, not a variable one, which makes it easier to budget for and harder to cut down.
The price picture for Qulipta is unusually well documented: AbbVie publishes a list price on the drug’s consumer site, CMS surveys what pharmacies actually pay, and discount cards publish live retail figures. All three were pulled on September 2, 2026. This page covers money and paperwork only, not whether the drug is right for you.
What Does Qulipta Cost Without Insurance?
Qulipta comes in 10 mg, 30 mg and 60 mg tablets, all supplied in bottles of 30, so a bottle is exactly one month. The list-price row comes from AbbVie’s own cost page. The acquisition-cost rows are CMS’s National Average Drug Acquisition Cost survey, which measures what retail pharmacies pay their wholesalers. Retail cash figures come from SingleCare’s live Qulipta page, prices updated September 2, 2026, for thirty 60 mg tablets.
| Price point | Low | Average / typical | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30-tablet month, cash with a free discount card | $1,073.68 | $1,133.25 | $1,160.92 |
| 30-tablet month, average retail cash (no card) | $1,620.21 | $1,620.21 | $1,620.21 |
| AbbVie published list price (WAC), 30-day supply | $1,204.57 | $1,204.57 | $1,204.57 |
| Pharmacy acquisition cost (NADAC), per 60 mg tablet | $38.45 | $38.45 | $38.45 |
| Pharmacy acquisition cost (NADAC), per 30 mg tablet | $38.39 | $38.39 | $38.39 |
| Pharmacy acquisition cost (NADAC), per 10 mg tablet | $38.43 | $38.43 | $38.43 |
| Per day, cash range | $35.79 | $40.15 | $54.01 |
| Medicare Part D average per fill, 2024 | $1,240.64 | $1,240.64 | $1,240.64 |
| QULIPTA Complete Savings Card (commercial insurance only) | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| myAbbVie Assist (approved applicants) | $0 | $0 | $0 |
The honest cross-source range for one month is roughly $1,074 to $1,620, and the sources differ in a way worth understanding. AbbVie’s list price of $1,204.57 as of January 2026 sits between the best card price and the average retail price, because retail cash layers a pharmacy markup on top of list. NADAC’s $38.45 per 60 mg tablet, effective August 19, 2026, comes to $1,153.59 for thirty tablets, about 96% of AbbVie’s list price. Two independent sources arriving within 4% of each other is a good sign that both are real numbers rather than list-price theater.
Every strength costs the same
This is the single most useful fact on this page for anyone starting therapy. NADAC prices the three strengths within six cents of each other, and AbbVie prices a 30-day supply the same regardless of dose. Titrating up from 10 mg to 60 mg does not raise your bill, and starting low does not lower it. The only thing that changes your monthly cost is where you fill and what card you use.
What Medicare pays
CMS’s Medicare Part D Spending by Drug dataset, data year 2024, records Qulipta at $35.98 per dosage unit and $1,240.64 per claim across 209,816 claims and 45,046 beneficiaries, with $260.3 million in total Part D spending and $5,778.70 per beneficiary for the year. Those figures are gross of manufacturer rebates, so they read on the high side, but the per-dosage-unit number tracks NADAC closely.
What Drives the Price
There is no generic and none is queued. FDA’s Drugs@FDA database lists only AbbVie’s original NDA 215206 for atogepant. Nurtec and Ubrelvy at least have tentatively approved generics waiting on patent expiry. Qulipta has none on file as of September 2026, and CMS’s NADAC file carries no corresponding generic acquisition cost. That makes it the least likely of the three oral gepants to see a price break soon.
It is a daily drug, so the bill never pauses. An acute gepant costs you money only when you treat an attack. Qulipta costs you a full bottle every 30 days whether you had two migraines that month or twelve. Over a year at the September 2026 range that is roughly $12,900 to $19,400.
Which pharmacy you use. On September 2, 2026, card prices for the identical 30-count 60 mg bottle ran from $1,073.68 to $1,160.92 across chains, a spread of about 8%. A single named chain’s card price moves between visits, so treat that spread as a reason to call three pharmacies rather than as a quote you can bank on for a specific store.
Whether you fill 30 or 90 days. Some pharmacies will fill a 90-day supply of a maintenance drug at a slight per-tablet discount, and it saves three dispensing fees. Ask before you assume, and check that a discount card still applies to the larger quantity, since card pricing is quantity-specific.
Regional and pharmacy-type variation. Grocery-chain and independent pharmacies routinely undercut national drugstore chains on brand-only drugs, and the gap is wider in lower-cost metros. It costs nothing to price the same script three ways before transferring it.
Cash Price vs. Insurance
For a commercially insured patient whose plan covers Qulipta, insurance wins clearly. AbbVie’s QULIPTA Complete Savings Card can take an eligible patient’s monthly copay to as little as $0, up to a maximum annual benefit of $7,000. That card requires active commercial insurance and is explicitly not valid for anyone on Medicare, Medicaid or another federal or state program.
The friction is almost always prior authorization or step therapy. Preventive migraine drugs are among the most heavily managed categories in commercial formularies, and many plans require documented failure of two or more older preventives (a beta blocker, an anticonvulsant, an antidepressant) before they pay for a gepant. While that plays out, you are a cash payer with an insurance card in your wallet.
If you are uninsured, the discount-card gap of roughly $547 a month between average retail and the best card price is the biggest saving available without paperwork. But the paperwork route is worth far more, and the income thresholds are higher than most people assume.
How to Pay Less
Apply to myAbbVie Assist before anything else. AbbVie’s patient assistance program provides free AbbVie medicines to qualifying patients with limited or no insurance. AbbVie’s published income table sets the limits at $63,840 or less for a household of one, $86,560 for two, $109,280 for three and $132,000 for four, adding $22,720 for each additional dependent. On a drug that costs $13,000 to $19,000 a year at retail, this is the difference between impossible and free. AbbVie does exclude patients whose commercial plan forces them to apply as a condition of coverage, known as an alternate funding program.
Use a free discount card while the application is pending. The gap between SingleCare’s average retail price of $1,620.21 and its best card price of $1,073.68 is about $547 a month, or 34%. No eligibility test, no fee. Our comparison of GoodRx vs. SingleCare explains how to check both quickly and which tends to win on brand-only drugs.
Do not pay more for a higher dose, and do not settle for less on a lower one. Since all three strengths cost the same, there is no cost reason to stay at 10 mg if 60 mg is what your prescriber intends. Equally, there is no cost saving in asking to start low.
Ask about a 90-day fill. Maintenance drugs often price slightly better in 90-day quantities, and you save on trips and dispensing fees. Confirm the discount card covers the larger quantity first, because card prices are set per quantity.
Price the older preventives as a reference point. Generic propranolol, topiramate and amitriptyline are pennies-per-day drugs, and generic sumatriptan for acute attacks sits at $0.43 a 100 mg tablet in CMS’s NADAC file as of August 19, 2026. That is not clinical advice, and the gepants exist because the older options fail or are poorly tolerated for many people. But if cost is what is stopping you from treating at all, it is a conversation to have. See sumatriptan cash prices for real counter figures.
Check a community health center. Federally qualified health centers charge on a sliding scale, and many run 340B pharmacies that dispense brand drugs far below retail. Our guide to free and sliding-scale clinics covers how to find one near you.
Verify any quote before you pay. Cash prices vary more than people expect, even between two branches of the same chain. Run the figure through our fair price checker first.
The Bottom Line
Qulipta is a fixed monthly expense in the $1,074 to $1,620 range for a cash payer as of September 2026, and it is the oral gepant least likely to get cheaper soon, because no generic atogepant application is even on file with FDA.
If your household income falls under AbbVie’s published thresholds, myAbbVie Assist is by far the highest-value action on this page and can take the cost to zero. Otherwise, a free discount card reliably removes about a third of the retail price. If you are weighing prevention against treating attacks as they come, compare this page with Nurtec ODT and Ubrelvy, and with the injectable CGRP preventives Emgality, Ajovy, Aimovig and Vyepti, which are dosed monthly or quarterly and price differently.
