Pure Barre is the cheapest of the big barre and reformer boutique brands, and it is still not cheap. The floor is $69 a month for four classes and the ceiling is $309 a month for unlimited, a five-fold spread across the whole menu. Even holding the tier constant, the identical unlimited membership costs $159 in one zip code and $309 in another.
That spread exists because all 617 U.S. Pure Barre studios are franchised and each one sets its own rate. The brand publishes national ranges instead of prices. The good news is that Pure Barre’s member portal exposes real per-studio pricing at checkout, so you can find your studio’s actual number in about ninety seconds without talking to anyone. This guide covers the tiers, what four real studios charged on September 5, 2026, the fee structure most people miss, and the equipment requirement.
What Does Pure Barre Cost Without Insurance?
| Membership or fee | Low | Typical | High |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4-class membership, per month | $69 | around $115 | $159 |
| 8-class membership, per month | $119 | around $195 | $269 |
| Unlimited membership, per month | $159 | around $235 | $309 |
| Single drop-in class | $25 | around $32 | $40 |
| Pure Barre Engage intro class | Free | Free | Free |
| Late-cancel fee (under 4 hours) | $15 | $15 | $15 |
| No-show fee | $20 | $20 | $20 |
| Sticky socks (required) | studio retail | studio retail | studio retail |
The tier and drop-in ranges come from Pure Barre’s membership guide, posted August 31, 2026 and read on September 5, 2026. The fees come from the company’s help center. The “typical” column is the midpoint of each published range, not a separately sourced figure.
Four real studios, priced on September 5, 2026
Studio-level prices are visible on Pure Barre’s member portal checkout pages, which are linked from each studio’s location page. Here is what four of them showed:
| Studio | Unlimited, per month | First-month promotion shown |
|---|---|---|
| Chattanooga North Shore, TN | $159 | up to 20% off, 3-month minimum |
| Noblesville, IN | about $169 | $118 first month (30% off) |
| Falls Church / Arlington, VA | about $209 | $146 first month (30% off) |
| New York Union Square, NY | $309 | $216 first month plus $9.72 tax (30% off) |
The Chattanooga checkout stated the renewal rate outright: “Auto-renews at $159 upon month two on a monthly basis,” with a 3-month minimum agreement. The other three displayed the discounted first payment, from which the standing rate follows. Note that the two ends of this table, $159 and $309, are exactly the low and high of the national range the brand publishes, which is a useful cross-check: two independent sources land on the same numbers.
Also note the phrase that appears on every one of these checkouts: “over 3 payments.” The discounted first month is not a trial. You are committing to three months.
What the franchise filing says the average member pays
PB Franchising SPV, LLC filed its 2026 franchise disclosure document with the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, registered April 20, 2026 with the document uploaded August 10, 2026. Item 19 covers 603 studios a franchisee owned and operated for all of calendar 2025.
Average gross revenue per studio was $393,761, median $363,617, with a range from $69,252 to $1,613,632. Average monthly active members were 205, median 196, range 28 to 483. Memberships accounted for 84% of gross revenue, and average monthly membership attrition was 5.9%.
Work it through and the average studio collected about $160 a month per member across everything it sells, of which roughly $134 was dues. That is a genuinely mid-market number, well below Club Pilates, and it tells you the typical Pure Barre member is on an 8-class plan or a modestly priced unlimited plan rather than the top tier.
What Drives the Price
Which studio you walk into
The brand publishes a range because it cannot publish a price. Every studio is a separate franchise, and the franchise agreement (section 6.6) reserves the franchisor’s right to set maximum or minimum prices without actually doing so in practice. Pure Barre’s own help center says it directly: studios are locally owned and operated and prices vary by location. If two studios are commutable, price both, because the difference can be $150 a month.
Classes per month, not access
The 4-class tier is built for once a week, the 8-class tier for twice a week, and unlimited for three or more. Credits do not roll over. An 8-class membership used four times costs you double per class, and at a $269 studio that is $67 a class, well above that studio’s own drop-in rate.
The formats do not change the price, and that matters
Pure Barre runs five class formats: Classic (the original barre technique with a ball, light hand weights and a resistance tube), Define (barre plus dumbbell strength work), Empower (barre plus HIIT with ankle weights and a plyo platform), Align (barre plus flexibility and balance), and Reform (barre plus Pilates movement patterns). All three membership tiers include all of them, and unlimited members also get monthly Pure Focus classes at no charge. There is no format upcharge, so a mixed routine costs the same as an all-Classic one.
Late-cancel and no-show fees are a real line item
Pure Barre requires a minimum four-hour cancellation notice. Miss that and the help center says a $15 late-cancel fee applies, or $20 if you no-show. On a $159 unlimited membership, two no-shows in a month is a 25% surcharge. The fees exist to free waitlist seats, but they are the most predictable avoidable cost in the whole model.
The intro offer is a 3-month commitment
New-client promotions run 20% to 30% off the first month of unlimited and are advertised on essentially every studio page. Every checkout we read attached a 3-month minimum agreement. That is a fair trade if you know you will go, and an expensive one if you are testing the waters. The free Pure Barre Engage class is the actual no-risk test.
Cash Price vs. Insurance
Insurance does not pay for barre. Neither, in the default case, does an HSA or FSA.
IRS Publication 502 states that you cannot include in medical expenses “health club dues or amounts paid to improve one’s general health or to relieve physical or mental discomfort not related to a particular medical condition,” and it separately excludes “membership dues in a gym, health club, or spa.” Buying a Pure Barre membership because you want to get in shape does not make it an eligible expense.
The exception requires a Letter of Medical Necessity from a licensed practitioner tying the expense to a diagnosed condition. Publication 502 does allow amounts paid to lose weight “if it is a treatment for a specific disease diagnosed by a physician (such as obesity, hypertension, or heart disease).” Third-party services will run that assessment for a fee and issue the letter if you qualify. Treat it as a possibility to check with your plan administrator, not as a plan.
The more dependable pre-tax route is your employer. Pure Barre studios participate in workplace fitness platforms and many benefits programs reimburse studio dues on submission of a receipt, with no medical paperwork at all. Check your benefits portal before you check anything else.
How to Pay Less
Price two studios from the member portal before you talk to anyone. Go to each studio’s page on purebarre.com, follow the membership offer link, and read the checkout. Chattanooga showed $159 and Union Square showed $309 on the same day. That single comparison is worth more than every other tactic here combined.
Use the free Engage class, and use it before the promotion. The 30-minute intro class costs nothing and carries no commitment. The 20% or 30% first-month offer, by contrast, comes with a three-month minimum. Do the free one first.
Match the tier to your realistic worst month. At 5.9% average monthly attrition, a lot of people are paying for classes they are not taking. Four classes a month at a mid-range studio is roughly $29 a class on the 4-class tier and roughly $59 a class on the unlimited tier. Below three classes a week, unlimited is a bad buy.
Cancel bookings more than four hours out, every time. Fifteen dollars is a small number that adds up fast, and unlike your dues it is entirely within your control. Put the four-hour window in your calendar alerts.
Buy sticky socks anywhere. They are required and the studio will sell you a pair, but any closed-toe grip sock satisfies the rule. This is a five-dollar decision, not a fifteen-dollar one.
Give 30 days’ written notice, in writing, to the studio. Pure Barre’s help center says refund and cancellation requests need written notice at least 30 days in advance and must go to the studio, because your contract is with the franchisee. If a charge lands after you cancel, our guide to negotiating a bill covers documenting and escalating a disputed recurring charge, and our fair price checker will tell you whether the rate you were paying was in line to begin with.
Compare the category honestly. A standard gym membership costs a fraction of any Pure Barre tier, an independent Pilates class is often cheaper per session, and if the goal is injury recovery rather than fitness, physical therapy is the right product and may be partially covered. If cost is the binding constraint, community and nonprofit fitness programs price on income the way free and sliding-scale clinics do.
The Bottom Line
A realistic first year is about $1,900 at a low-cost studio on unlimited ($159 a month) and about $3,700 at a high-cost one ($309 a month), before late-cancel fees and socks. On the 4-class tier the same year runs roughly $830 to $1,910. The average member, per the franchise filing, pays closer to $134 a month in dues, or about $1,600 a year.
Pure Barre sits under Xponential Fitness, Inc. (NYSE: XPOF), and the parent’s own SEC filing is worth knowing about: as of June 30, 2026 the company flagged Pure Barre’s goodwill as at heightened risk of future impairment, having exceeded its carrying value by only about 6% at the end of 2025, driven by lower expected future cash flows. System-wide average unit volume fell to $681,000 from $701,000 year over year with same-store sales down 7%. A brand in that position discounts hard for new members, which is exactly why the three-month minimum exists. Lock in a rate you would still accept in month four. If you are shopping the category, Club Pilates is the pricier sibling brand under the same parent, solidcore is the corporate-owned reformer competitor that publishes every studio’s price online, and Orangetheory sells the same credit-based structure with a required heart rate monitor.
